SENTINELS VALORANT WIN SEVENTH TITLE IN 2021; BOOK TRIP TO BERLIN
LOS ANGELES (August 17, 2021) - In yet another display of dominance, Sentinels continued their dynastic 2021 run by capturing first place in the VALORANT Champions Tour (VCT) NA Stage 3 Challengers Finals, becoming the No. 1 seed to represent North America at VALORANT Masters: Berlin.
Sentinels defeated the other two representatives for North America in convincing fashion, beating Envy 2-0 in an upper bracket semi-finals matchup for qualification and 100 Thieves twice (2-0 and 3-1) in both the upper bracket finals and grand finals, respectively. The team opened play with a 2-1 victory in the quarterfinals over Rise.
Match MVP honors in the grand finals versus 100T were awarded to Tyson “TenZ” Ngo on Map 1 Bind and Map 4 Split, with Hunter “SicK” Mims claiming MVP status on Map 3 Haven.
The calendar year has turned into a dominant era for Sentinels, as the quintet of Michael “dapr” Gulino, Shahzeb “ShahZaM” Khan, SicK, TenZ, and Jared “zombs” Gitlin have earned seven tournament victories since the year began with a staggering record of 50-7 in official VCT match play.
Sentinels are also the only team worldwide to have secured qualification for the end-of-year world championship, VALORANT: Champions, as a result of circuit points accumulated through play in the VCT, and are the sole North American team that will have attended all international competitions by year’s end.
Sentinels claimed the top prize of $40,000 for their championship victory Sunday and also became the first organization to eclipse $500,000 in total prizing awarded in the history of VALORANT esports.
The team will take a short break before traveling to Berlin, Germany with Masters Stage 3 set to take place on Sept. 9-19. A total of 16 teams from around the world will compete at Masters: Berlin with further details on format and scheduling TBD.
